Can you share a memorable experience of tasting or creating wine that has deeply marked your professional career?

In the early 90s in Burgundy, during a visit to a renowned wine producer, an experience unfolded that deeply marked my professional journey. The winemaker approached my husband for wine advice, assuming he held the expertise. With unwavering support, my husband confidently redirected him to me, saying, « You have to deal with her, she is the expert. »

The winemaker was visibly shocked and even exclaimed, swearing that if women started to have knowledge about wine, it would be a shame. Despite his prejudices, I faced the situation head-on with professionalism and determination. I provided insightful advice, showcasing my expertise and passion for winemaking. This moment was more than just a professional challenge; it was a pivotal point in fighting against sexism in the industry.

With the steadfast support of my husband, I was able to break stereotypes and lead by example, proving that knowledge and skill know no gender. This experience reinforced my commitment to paving the way for more women in the wine industry, demonstrating that determination and professionalism can overcome even the most ingrained biases.

As a grandmother and businesswoman in the wine industry, my perspective on my granddaughter and her relationship with alcohol and wine is profound and rooted in a deep appreciation for our family’s heritage. First and foremost, I hope she will learn to appreciate and enjoy wine responsibly. Wine, for me, is more than just a drink—it’s about sociability, the transmission of knowledge, and the preservation of our heritage.

In our family, wine has always been a symbol of connection and celebration. It’s about coming together, sharing stories, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
